June 22, 1969, the day my mother and father got married... she was 20 while he was already 33. Yes.. it's a big 13 years age gap, but my parents were able to prove that despite their age gap they can be good partners and good parents. My mother has been a full-pledged housewife ever since they got married and I am proud to tell the whole world that our parents raised us well. Blessed with 4 children(2 girls and 2 boys) who they were able to send to private schools, I would say life for us back then was not easy.
Having my father as the sole breadwinner and with 4 children going to school at an age gap of 1, 3, and 2 years apart, you can just imagine the trouble my mother would go through writing those probationary letters just to have the 4 of us be enrolled every time the school year starts and how many cash advancements my father would have to make from his office every time we would have our exams.
Now that we are all grown-ups and with my 2 siblings already married, I would say life is much better now. I have learned to value every little income I received because of how my parents have raised us. If it's something that is not really a necessity, we have to think a hundred times before deciding to purchase something.

The marriage of my parents is not what I would call a perfect marriage. They had their episodes of fights. I would remember some years back while we were still students when they would have misunderstandings, my mother would not sleep in their room. But that is a part of it all, two different individuals with two different minds and it would be impossible to avoid conflicts. Despite those petty quarrels, they never lost their respect for each other and that has kept them together.
Yesterday, during their 39th anniversary, I invited my mama and papa to go to SM with me coz I wanted to buy something for them. We went to SM with my sis and his husband and my nephew John. After that, my mama and papa had a dinner date.. while the rest of us headed home.
I am thankful to God for giving me such wonderful parents and wish that He continues to bless them with good health and more happy years together.
